What laboratory services are available at FPAM?

FPAM provides basic laboratory and diagnostic services that support reproductive health, maternal health, and general medical care. These services help healthcare providers make accurate diagnoses and guide appropriate treatment and referrals.

Are laboratory test results kept confidential?

Yes. FPAM strictly maintains client confidentiality and privacy. All laboratory tests and results are handled professionally, and information is only shared with authorised healthcare providers involved in your care.

Do I need a referral to access laboratory services at FPAM?

In most cases, laboratory services are provided following consultation with an FPAM healthcare provider. If a required test is not available on‑site, clients are referred to an appropriate accredited laboratory for further testing.

Are FPAM laboratory services affordable?

Yes. FPAM is committed to providing affordable laboratory services. Many tests are offered at low or subsidised costs, ensuring clients can access essential diagnostic services without financial barriers.

What are available modern contraceptive methods?

There are currently four categories of modern contraceptive methods that the government of Malawi through Ministry of Health and World Health Organisation permits to issue to all people of reproductive age (10-25+ years). These are Short Acting Contraception like condoms, oral or pills, and injectables; Long Acting and Reversible Contraception like loop and implants; Permanent Contraception like vasectomy and bilateral tubal ligation; and Natural Contraception like beads method.

What is ideal age for contraception?

There is no specific age recommended to use contraception. Contraception is meant for all people of reproductive age (10-25+ years).

Can I use more than one family planning method?

YES! Dual protection from unintended pregnancy as well as venereal infections can be achieved by using other pregnancy prevention contraceptives combined with male and female condoms.

What is emergency contraception?

These are pills that are taken either before sex or after sex to avoid unintended pregnancy. The pills are supposed to be taken within 72 hours after sex. If fertilization has already taken place, the method does not work. These pills have upper help to girls and women who face sexual gender based violence.
