Visiting members of parliament from European countries have expressed satisfaction with youth involvement on issues of Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) in Malawi.

The visiting parliamentarians on Tuesday visited a youth lead organization, Youth Wave in the capital Lilongwe.

Cosmih Poteras, a Romanian Member of Parliament said it is very much impressing to see that youths in Malawi are making strides in issues of mindset change as they are trying to find solutions to most of the issues affecting them.

“It seems that the youth are engaged, and they are the future. We met smart young people and when we return, we shall create events that will increase awareness that may lead to helping organisations that are doing a great job,’’ he said.

Youth Wave Executive Director John Nyirenda said most of the youth lead organizations face challenges of funding. He indicated that they felt honored by the visit.

“As an organization we have been working with young people and we listen to them and this this engagement has given us an opportunity to have discussions on how best we can empower young people,’’ he said.

On his part, FPAM Executive Director Donald Makwakwa said the engagement of the visiting team with the youths was very important as the country is looking for more youths to take lead in many aspects.
